「人間というものは、昔から変わっていないんだなあ」
PCR検査を受けてきました。
少し喉が痛くて熱っぽかったので。元々季節の変わり目には扁桃腺をはらす癖があったのですが、まだその名残があるのです。しかし人と会うこともこれから多少はあるわけで、医者に電話して症状を伝え診察して欲しい旨を伝えると、PCR検査即決でした。

ドクターの厳格な指示のもとに
病院に到着し、PCR検査を受けにきた旨を伝えると、早速ドクターが診察を始めてくれます。喉を見て、熱を測り、軽い扁桃腺炎、という診断だったのですが、普段なら薬を出して終わりだが、しっかりとPCR検査をしましょう、と検査室に案内されました。
検査室は１畳程度の広さ。入ってすぐ目についたのは、手術室かのような手を洗う設備。小さな検査室とはいえ、間違いなく病院の施設なので、厳格に色々なことが定められているのでしょう。ドクターは入り口のところに留まって、私を振り向かせ、これから行う検体の唾液を採取する方法の説明を始めます。
検査に十分な唾液を分泌させることが難しいらしいのです。
両手のそれぞれの人差し指と親指で丁字の形を作り、その丁字を両耳に添え、そうした時に拇指球があたりところが耳下腺なので、まずそこを刺激して、さらには顎の横の舌下腺を親指で刺激する。確かに実行すると唾液がしっかり出てきます。
唾液を飲み込まないように、後で試験管に採取しますから、と注意を受け、正面に向き直って手洗いするように言われます。
その時も「もっと石鹸をつけてください」「左の手の甲をもっとしっかり洗浄してください」と抜け漏れがないよう、厳しく指導されました。
医療も暮らしの一つなんだ
そしていよいよ、唾液の採取になります。
「はい、左を向いてください。そこにロートが差し込んである試験管がありますね」
私は左を向きました。確かに、机の上にロートが差し込んである試験管がありました。
そして、壁には、梅干しとレモンの写真が貼ってありました。
耳下腺・舌下腺の刺激をして唾液を十分に出すのは、医学って感じですが、最後の最後は、梅干しとレモン。確かに私は、梅干しとレモンの写真を見ることで、さらに口腔内は、唾液で満たされました。
ある意味、人間の智慧というものを感じることができました。
医療も、暮らしの中の一つなのだなあ、と思いました。
ちなみに、結果は陰性でした。
みなさん、しっかり手を洗い、マスクをして、３密を避けましょう。

Even then, I was strictly instructed to "put more soap on" and "wash the back of your left hand more thoroughly" so that there would be no omissions.

And on the wall, there were pictures of dried plums and lemons.
It seems like medicine to stimulate the parotid and sublingual glands to produce enough saliva, but at the end of the day, dried plums and lemons.
Indeed, by looking at the pictures of dried plums and lemons, my oral cavity was filled with more saliva.
In a way, I was able to feel the wisdom of human beings.
I realized that medicine is also a part of our lives.
